Dr. Riico Dotson is a California doctor who has worked in many areas of sports medicine in his career, including work with professional hockey, football and basketball players. His latest role is working with rodeo athletes as a member of the Justin Sports Medicine Team in Red Bluff, California.

He's responsible for caring for cowboys and cowgirls that are injured int eh rodeo arena, and sees 10 patients on average at each rodeo. Some are seriously hurt but others stop by to have stitches removed from previous accidents. Bull riding is the rodeo event that has the highest injury rate at nearly 50%, followed by bareback riding with a 23% injury rate. The most common injuries are concussions, shoulder dislocation, ankle, wrist and knee injuries according to Dotson. He enjoys education youth that are coming up through the ranks so that he can help raise awareness of injury prevention early on.

Three Alberta Cowboys Stage Private Bull Riding Performance For Royal Couple

Three Alberta cowboys are going to stage a private bull riding performance for the Royal couple, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, next week on Thursday night. Devon Mezei, Jesse Torkelson and Scott Schiffner will perform their bull riding feat in a 40X60 foot pen stationed in front of the BMO Center outside the Calgary Stampede grounds. There will be no other audience and no television cameras to give footage of the bull riding act.
All three bull riding performers selected, have carved a niche for themselves in the past. Mezei ranks second in the Canadian standings. Torkelson is the reigning Canadian champion and Schiffner has the highest paid rodeo career of the nation. All three feel that the private demonstration of their bull riding skills in front of Prince Williams and Kate is a unique opportunity. They feel honoured. The bulls that the three Alberta cowboys are to ride will be selected next week.

Last March 11 and 12, the 12th annual PCA Championship Rodeo kicked off at the Baldwin County Fairgrounds of Robertsdale, Alabama with a lively audience and excited participants. It is a rodeo sanctioned by the Professional Cowboy Association and made possible by Bo Campbell Production. Events include professional bull riding among many others such as calf roping, bareback, team roping, barrel racing, breakaway, and steer wrestling.

The event was the second biggest rodeo behind the Pro Rodeo Cowboy Association or PRCA. It brags its being largest for this year with a whopping $200,000. Also, a variety of events feature qualified participants who can be expected at the finals.
Bull riding professionals gathered for the two-evening event. They gave their fullest support to the different events that make the championship brighter than ever.
